Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd set to re-open

Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd is set to re-open following its closure due to Storm Dennis back in February.

The park, in Pontypridd town centre, suffered severe flood damage and has remained closed for the last 13 weeks.

As a result of the damage, repair work has been ongoing to fix the lido and play area, fencing, the cricket pavilion, football changing rooms, the bowls pavilion, café and public toilets.

The park was initially due to reopen in April but Rhondda Cynon Taf council needed to re-direct staff to deal with the coronavirus emergency.

Now, RCT council leader Andrew Morgan has announced the park will officially re-open to the public on Wednesday (May 27).

Social distancing guidelines must be followed, and the decision to re-open the park will be kept under review.

He said: "In line with the latest government advice and following the completion of the repair works over the course of the last review period, I can confirm that Ynysangharad War Memorial Park will re-open to the public from tomorrow (Wednesday) between the hours of 10am and 6pm.

"Council environmental officers and local PCSOs will be undertaking regular patrols of the park to ensure that social distancing guidelines are being adhered to and, as is the case will all our parks, the situation will be kept under review - and the council will take action in the interests of public safety and could consider close the park if there are significant issues around a lack of social distancing or crowds gathering.

"We want residents to use the park as part of their daily exercise in the open air, but please do so responsibly and adhere to the social distancing guidelines at all times."
