Yingluck's bag carrier cops flak

A police colonel seen in a photo carrying a shopping bag behind fugitive former prime minister Yingluck Shinawatra abroad could face disciplinary action, says deputy police chief Srivara Ransibrahmanakul.

The colonel is seen with a woman, in green jacket, thought to be Yingluck. Pui Vijitphan Facebook

The photo has gone viral on social media in Thailand and is said to have been taken in Britain.

The police officer in the photo is Pol Col Wathanyu Watcharapalothai, who was a guard for Yingluck when she was prime minister.

Pol Col Wathanyu is now the chief of the research and development sub-division of the Special Branch Bureau's Intelligence Development Centre.

The officer submitted a letter to take leave From June 25 to July 13, explaining he needed to travel to the UK to take care of his child's education.

If the picture is authentic and was taken recently, Pol Col Wathanyu's action would be deemed inappropriate as he is still a serving officer, Pol Gen Srivara said.

If the photo was taken in Thailand, he would have faced a criminal charge, he added.
