US rapper YG has been arrested in Los Angeles on suspicion of robbery – just days before his scheduled performance at the Grammy Awards

The LA County Sheriff’s department said they arrived with a search warrant at the 29-year-old’s home on Friday 24 January.

The artist, born Keenon Jackson, was released at around 9pm (5pm GMT) the same day after being held on a $250,000 (£191,000) bail, according toSky News.

YG is known for tracks including “Go Loko” and “Toot it and Boot it”.

He was scheduled to perform at the 2020 Grammys this Sunday on 26 January with fellow artists John Legend and Meek Mill, as part of a tribute to his late collaborator Nipsey Hussle.

Fellow rapper The Game tweeted about YG's arrest and criticised the Los Angeles Police Department, saying: “Funny how YG gets arrested the weekend of the Grammys when he's supposed to hit the stage in [Nipsey Hussle's] honour. #LAPDtheBiggestGangHere.”

The Grammys take place on 26 January at the Staples Center in Los Angeles.
