A Dutch model is reportedly in a critical condition after falling off a surfboard in Italy.
Yfke Sturm is understood to have fallen off a motorised 'jet surf' and fractured her skull and a number of her vertebrae, leaving her at risk of paralysis, The Telegraph reports.
She was taken to the Rizzoli hospital on the island of Ischia before being transferred to a specialist unit in Naplres, where it is understood she is still being treated.
Sturm recently gave birth to a son, Alexander, and lives in London. The 33-year-old has modelled for the underwear brand Victoria’s Secret and clothing brand Calvin Klein, among others. She also runs her own charity, Yfke 4 Kids, which supports children affected by Aids.
A spokesperson for Next Model Management confirmed to The Independent that Sturm was injured during an incident last week, but could not comment on her condition.
The agency said in a statement: “We were shocked to hear about this terrible accident and our thoughts and prayers are with Yfke and her family at this time for her speedy recovery.”
