Yet another blow to the US newspaper industry

Gannett, the largest newspaper publisher in the US, has announced that it is making employees take a week off without pay between now and the end of March.

The company's CEO, Craig Dublow, issued a memo confirming speculation swirling around on Gannett Blog. The head of Gannett's newspaper division president, Bob Dickey, also issued a statement.

The announcement comes just as the Chicago Tribune prepares to take its newsstand edition into tabloid territory, making the climate seem bleaker.
