Chasing 181, SRH openers Travis Head and Abhishek Sharma began steadily before Mukesh Choudhary removed Head for just six in the third over. Ishan Kishan then joined Abhishek as Hyderabad reached 45/1 at the end of the powerplay.
Abhishek scored a fighting 26 before Akeal Hosein dismissed him in the eighth over. At 75/2 after 10 overs, SRH needed acceleration — and it came through Kishan and Heinrich Klaasen. The duo attacked the CSK bowlers with ease, taking Hyderabad to 126/2 after 14 overs.
Klaasen looked dangerous during his 47-run knock off 26 balls before being stumped brilliantly by Sanju Samson off Noor Ahmad. The dismissal also sparked a brief verbal exchange between the two players.
Kishan, however, stayed calm under pressure and brought up his half-century in 37 balls. Even after the dismissals of Nitish Reddy and Kishan, who top-scored with a superb 70 off 47 deliveries, SRH remained in control. Smaran Ravichandran eventually hit the winning boundary in the final over as Hyderabad completed the chase with six balls to spare.
Earlier, SRH skipper Pat Cummins led from the front with the ball, helping restrict CSK to 180/7. Cummins picked up three crucial wickets, while Sakib Hussain claimed two and Eshan Malinga chipped in with one.
Batting first, CSK got off to a flying start through Sanju Samson, who smashed 27 in quick time with aggressive strokeplay. However, Cummins broke the momentum by dismissing him early. Urvil Patel and Kartik Sharma also played attacking cameos, while Dewald Brevis added a crucial 44 to stabilise the innings alongside Shivam Dube.
CSK captain Ruturaj Gaikwad struggled for timing throughout his innings, managing just 15 runs off 21 balls at a strike rate of 71.42 — one of the slowest innings of IPL 2026.
Despite late contributions from Brevis and Dube, Hyderabad bowlers pulled things back brilliantly in the death overs, with Praful Hinge delivering an excellent final over to keep Chennai at 180/7.
Ishan deserves all the credit, says Pat Cummins
