Yes, even Guy Fieri has a cold plunge now – every celeb is upgrading their backyard with these Scandi-style tubs, and you should too

Guy Fieri, aka The Mayor of Flavortown, isn't the first name that comes to mind when we think about 'designing for wellness,' but the restaurateur is doing just that with his RenuTherapy cold plunge.

The cold therapy brand shared a video of Guy Fieri leaping into a Scandi-style cold plunge, replete with natural wood siding. He tells the camera: 'I've been cold-plunging for about a year and a half, I've done it every way, with the barrel, with the ice, with the homeade freezer contraptions, but this is the best of the best.' Clearly, he is passionate enough about plunging to incorporate it as a permanent facet of his backyard decor.

The Scandi-wellness trend has been appearing in the outdoor spaces of some of the most famous, and healthiest, people we know since early 2023. David Beckham, Mark Wahlberg, Orlando Bloom, and Julianne Hough are among the many who have built a cold tub into their backyards. Guy is only the most recent to join their ranks.

Given the health benefits of a backyard spa, it's easy to see why Guy partakes. Dr. Trevor Cates, Naturopathic Physician at The Spa Dr. explains: 'As a naturopathic doctor with training in traditional hydrotherapy, I’ve seen firsthand how powerful cold water therapy can be. A daily cold plunge can boost circulation, reduce inflammation, and support resilience in both the nervous and immune systems.'

She continues: 'It’s a time-tested practice, especially when paired with heat, such as from a home sauna, warm shower, or exercise, before transitioning to cold. I always remind patients: don’t overextend your time in the cold. Even just 30 seconds to a couple of minutes is sufficient.

In addition to the wellness benefits, a well-chosen cold plunge is a great way to elevate your garden decor.

Dr. Cates advises: 'A beautifully designed cold plunge, like the Scandi-style wooden varieties, not only enhances the aesthetic of your outdoor space but can also inspire more frequent use. I often recommend patients finish their showers with a cold blast of water for similar benefits, and a cold plunge takes that to the next level. When it looks inviting, it becomes part of your lifestyle, not just a wellness tool.'

Furthermore, having an at-home spa significantly increases your likelihood of engaging with beneficial wellness practices.

'Convenience is key,' says Dr. Cates. Having a cold plunge just steps from your door removes barriers and helps build it into your regular routine. That ease of access supports consistency which is one of the most important aspects of any wellness practice. The key is to schedule a consistent time so it becomes a ritual you look forward to.'

Celebrity-wellness trends are cyclical, but due to its time honored tradition and design benefits, cold plunging is poised to last. When even the Mayor of Flavortown is doing it, you know it's big.
