Yerry Mina lifts the lid on his strong defensive displays and the part Everton fans have played

Yerry Mina has lifted the lid on his strong defensive displays in recent weeks - and revealed the roles both Marco Silva and Everton's supporters have played.

The Colombian international made a big money move to Goodison Park from Barcelona in the summer of 2018 but wasn't able to pick up the amount of game time he wanted due to injuries throughout the campaign.

However, after an impressive run in the Copa America in the summer, the 24-year-old returned to USM Finch Farm with a new confidence - and he has hit the ground running so far this season.

Everton are the only side in the Premier League two have kept two clean sheets in their opening matches of the season and Mina alongside Michael Keane have played a big part in that.

And the centre-back believes the support of Blues fans and the work Silva has done on the training pitch have been crucial to his development.

"I feel very good, the manager is working with me every day and giving me a lot of confidence," Mina told evertonfc.com .

"I am understanding more what he wants all the time and becoming more comfortable.

"This is my best football since I came to Everton but I have to keep my focus and always work to improve.

"They [the fans] are always behind me and the team. It is incredible to play in front of these supporters and a brilliant feeling to play at Goodison Park.

"The fans have been very good to me since I came to Everton and their support gives me a lot of confidence."

Mina knows that keeping a clean sheet in Engand's top division is no easy task.

But, despite the Blues managing it twice in two matches so far, the centre-back is also aware there is still room for he and his teammates to improve.

The defender added: "The Premier League is very difficult every week, there is no team you can think of as being weak.

"A lot of the forwards are physical and there is no chance to rest during matches – no games when you can take it easy.

"Every team tries to win and this is the type of football any player wants to play.

"It is the main job of the goalkeeper and centre-backs to keep clean sheets – that is what we are working to achieve every day.

"But we know there is still much to improve."
