Yerry Mina goal gave Everton two-year advantage over Liverpool

Everton were one step ahead of Liverpool again at the weekend - without kicking a ball!

Liverpool recorded their 7,000th top-flight goal of all-time in the 2-0 victory at Sheffield United on Sunday - a feat Everton achieved almost two-and-a-half-years ago!

A Kean Bryan own goal will forever be chalked down in the history books for the Reds while Yerry Mina was the man to achieve the feat for Everton.

His header on Boxing Day 2018 - a 5-1 decimation of Burnley at Turf Moor - helped the club become the first English club to reach the 7,000-goal milestone.

Mina said afterwards: “I am so proud to score such a significant goal for the football Club.

“For me, personally, it was a special goal but it is also a celebration of all the famous names who have scored for this great team.

“To be the first club to reach 7,000 goals demonstrates what I knew when I arrived here - that it is an important club with a big history.”

After the win at Burnley, Everton become the first English team to play 4,500 top-flight matches when they lost to Brighton in their next game.
