Yerry Mina backed to get himself among the goals for Everton

Marco Silva is confident it is only a matter of time before Yerry Mina breaks his duck for the season.

The defender has only scored once since joining Everton in the summer of 2018 - a header against Burnley on Boxing Day.

And ahead of the Blues' return to Turf Moor this weekend, Silva has backed the Colombian to open his account for the campaign after a number of near misses.

Mina had two chances to score against Manchester City but his first header lacked power and was tipped over before a second attempt was kept out at full stretch by Ederson.

The 25-year-old was also denied by a fine Rui Patricio save in the game with Wolves last month and Silva is convinced it won't be long before the towering defender is off the mark.

"At set pieces he is really strong," Silva said.

"When the ball comes in a good spot Mina does that.

"Unfortunately for us he didn’t score but let’s hope he can in the next game because he is getting the chances. Amazing saves against Wolves and today Ederson made some fantastic saves.

"Let’s hope that not just Mina but the others put the ball in the net because if we are more clinical the results will come."
