Yemeni Govt Working to Bring Back Expats Stranded Abroad

Coronavirus in Yemen. AAWSAT AR.

The Yemeni government is working to bring back home expats stranded abroad because of the coronavirus pandemic with the first batch expected to return from Cairo on Wednesday, official sources reported.

Three batches have already been flown in from the Jordanian capital, Amman, and had arrived at the Seyoun Airport in Hadhramaut governorate. The Yemeni government is also working to resolve the problem of Yemenis stranded at land borders with Saudi Arabia and has formed a number of committees to deal with the matter.

Returnees from Jordan were committed to PCR tests for the coronavirus in Amman before being sent home.

The flight from Amman transported 148 coronavirus-free passengers as part of government efforts to bring back home expats stranded abroad.

Yemeni Ambassador to Cairo Mohammed Marem said that PCR tests were issued for travelers willing to return to Yemen on Monday at the health ministry’s central labs where it was arranged to receive 180 persons daily.

Marem, in an official statement, noted that the embassy has been coordinating with Egyptian authorities to arrange the return of Yemeni expats home. According to government protocols, Yemeni airlines will communicate daily with those registered for flight schedules.

Registered expats must visit the central laboratories 48 hours before the date of their flights.

The Yemeni embassy’s medical attaché will supervise the organization of procedures at the laboratories, Marem added.

The Yemeni ambassador also praised the efforts spent by Egyptian Health Minister Hala Zayed in issuing needed tests at the central labs of the ministry.

In other news, a ship with 146 Yemenis on board arrived in Yemen from Djibouti. All passengers were cleared from the coronavirus by PCR testing.

The Yemeni embassy in Djibouti had urged all expats to register their names and undergo processing before being able to return home.
