The Yemeni government on Wednesday welcomed a Saudi Foreign Ministry statement that condemned the protestors' raid into the presidential palace in Aden.
It also reiterated the Kingdom's support to Yemen's government and highlighted the need to give it full opportunity to serve the Yemeni people amid the ongoing hard conditions.
In a statement carried by the Aden-based Saba, the government expressed gratitude for Saudi efforts to bridge rift, prevent bloodshed, unite Yemeni ranks in the face of Houthi coup, restore the state and maintain Yemen's security and unity.
“The implementation of the Riyadh Agreement’s military part should be given high priority to protect this achievement that was obtained only by Saudi efforts,” the statement read.
Saudi Arabia had strongly condemned the raid into the presidential palace and called on the parties to the Riyadh Agreement for an urgent response and a meeting in Riyadh to complete the implementation of the rest of the deal.
The Saudi Foreign Ministry also affirmed that the implementation of the deal ensures that the various parties in Yemen will be united, which will help end the bloodshed and mend the rift between them.
The Southern Transitional Council (STC), which is a signatory of the Riyadh Agreement, released a statement on the need to complete the implementation of the Saudi-brokered deal as well.
The Yemeni government has said that it appreciates the right to peaceful protest, but dismissed the raid into the palace as “chaos fitting to no form of peaceful demonstration and assault against the state.”
On Wednesday, Secretary General of the Jeddah-based Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) Yousef Al-Othaimeen underscored the importance of expediting the completion of the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement.
Saying the deal has contributed to the creation of an appropriate climate to find solutions to a number of issues in Yemen, Othaimeen stressed that it helped stop bloodshed, heal rifts and support efforts for reaching a comprehensive political solution.
Othaimeen also confirmed that his office is closely following the recent developments in Yemen.
He also voiced OIC’s support for the Yemeni government, led by Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik, in its endeavor to meet the interests and aspirations of its citizens.
