The Iran-backed Houthi militias are being heavily depleted in the ongoing fighting in Yemen’s Marib and al-Jawf provinces where the army and popular resistance have repelled major attacks, revealed a military source.

The army and resistance succeeded on Sunday in repelling a Houthi attack on the al-Jadafer front in eastern al-Jawf, dealing them heavy losses.

Military official Mohammed al-Haji said the army repelled a Houthi attack on three fronts, including Rahba.

The army was backed by a series of air raids carried out by the Saudi-led Arab coalition against Houthi positions in various parts of Rahba. Dozens of militants were killed.

Another military official, Mohammed Jaber, said the militias have failed terribly in making any advances in Marib and their forces are being heavily depleted.

In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, he underscored the importance of the fierce battles in Marib, saying: “Iran has thrown all of its weight, expertise, senior commanders and thousands of fighters behind the Houthis.”

These efforts have, however, failed miserably, he stressed.

Moreover, he revealed that massive numbers of tribe members have met the calls to protect Marib and they have joined several battlefronts.
