Yemen to Resort to the Security Council against Iran’s Militias

Yemen’s Foreign Minister Khaled al-Yamani said his country would take urgent measures to face the criminal acts carried out by coup militias in the western coast, which threaten the safety and security of international navigation in the Red Sea.

In a telephone conversation with Asharq Al-Awsat, Yamani said his country’s delegation to the Security Council would act in coordination with the Kuwaiti mission - the only Arab representative in the Council - to file a direct complaint about the targeting of commercial ships by the militias.

He added that Yemen would call upon the Council to act swiftly to stop these gross violations of international navigation law.

Yamani stressed that his government held the international community and the Security Council responsible for all the crimes committed by Houthi rebels in the southern Red Sea shipping corridors. He added that it was impossible to talk about peace before the full and unconditional withdrawal of those rebels from the western coast.

The interior minister explained that his country had informed the international community of the aggressions perpetrated by the Iran-backed militias against international commercial shipping.

“During the past period, the militias have planted thousands of naval mines sporadically, which contravenes international law and threatens the security of navigation,” he added.
