Yemen to Build 14 Oxygen Plants to Cover 80% of Needs in Liberated Regions

Yemeni Minister of Health and Population Dr. Qassem Buhaibah.

Yemen’s health ministry unveiled a project to build 14 oxygen plants in liberated governorates.

These plants will be funded by the Islamic Development Bank through the World Health Organization, at a cost of over $4 million.

Once fully operational, the project is expected to cover up to 80 percent of the oxygen needs in liberated governorates, Yemeni Minister of Health and Population Dr. Qassem Buhaibah told Asharq Al-Awsat.

He pointed to its significance in light of the coronavirus pandemic and the health system’s high demand for oxygen.

The project will be complete within four to six months.

The ministry will try to complete it before the end of the year “for maximum benefit,” added Buhaibah.

These plants will have a capacity varying between 100-200 oxygen cylinders, he noted.

The ministry’s engineering teams began Monday the implementation process by visiting 14 health facilities to inaugurate the executive steps and hand over the sites to the supplying company, he told Saba news agency.
