Yemen’s legitimate government welcomed on Saturday the withdrawal of the Southern Transitional Council from key public buildings in the temporary capital Aden, praising Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates for containing the latest incidents in the city.
The supporters of the STC pulled out of the government headquarters, the supreme court and the central bank as well as Aden's main hospital, Yemeni Information Minister Muammar al-Eryani said on Twitter.
Eryani said preparations were also underway for a pullout by STC fighters from the interior ministry and the Aden oil refinery.
He lauded “the role played by Saudi Arabia and the UAE in containing the Aden incidents,” calling for unifying all efforts to confront the Iran-backed Houthi militias.
His tweets echoed a statement issued by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen overnight on Saturday, in which it called for dialogue and said all forces should unite under the Coalition to fight the Houthis.
The Coalition statement said the STC and the so-called Security Belt forces started pulling out to their former positions in Aden.
