Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik stated that the Saudi initiative to end his country’s crisis puts the Houthi militias and their backers in Tehran in a real confrontation with the Yemeni people and international community.

In remarks to Asharq Al-Awsat, he explained that the initiative exposes the Houthis and their insistence to reject peace efforts and to continue the war.

He reiterated the government’s welcoming of the Saudi initiative, stressing that it meets the expectations of the Yemeni people.

“The government will not impede any real and serious efforts aimed at achieving sustainable peace that the people aspire for,” Abdulmalik declared.

“We have always called for peace and we have always stipulated the importance of providing the necessary conditions to achieve it,” he continued. The government is committed to positively dealing with all peace efforts and initiatives.

It is prepared to “make concessions based on its moral and national obligations towards the people, whose suffering is unbearable and while the Houthis, at Iran’s orders, continue to escalate their actions and reject all political solutions,” he revealed.

He hailed Saudi Arabia’s keenness on achieving peace in Yemen according to the three references: The Gulf initiative, national dialogue outcomes and United Nations Security Council resolution 2216.
