Yemeni Prime Minister Maeen Abdulmalik stressed Sunday that the recent Sweden consultations that brought together the legitimate government and Iran-backed Houthi militias proved the government’s seriousness about reaching peace.
He told a cabinet meeting in Aden that the consultations demonstrated to the international community that the government has not been and will not act as an obstacle in any real effort to establish peace based on the three internationally agreed references.
The references are United Nations Security Council resolution 2216, the Gulf initiative and national dialogue outcomes.
"We have reacted fully positively out of our sense of historic and national responsibility towards our people, but the other side does not care about the suffering and humanitarian disaster caused by their coup," Abdulmalik added according to the official Yemeni news agency Saba.
He said that "what has been achieved with regard to the port city of Hodeidah (in Stockholm) is a first step, but what matters is ensuring that it gets implemented without delay.”
“The UN, Security Council and international community must assume their responsibility in this regard,” he demanded.
