Yemen Govt. Slams UN Humanitarian Coordinator’s Visit to Saada

The legitimate government in Yemen condemned on Wednesday a visit by the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator for Yemen Lise Grande to the Dahyan district in Saada, the stronghold of the Iran-backed Houthi militias, reported the Saudi Press Agency.

Information Minister Muammar al-Iryani described her visit as biased towards the militias.

Her latest statements and visit to Dahyan confirm the UN mission in Yemen’s bias to the militias and reliance on misleading information that they provide.

It does not resort to the legitimate government and jumps to conclusions before the results of fact-finding missions on various issues, including the Dahyan market incident, are released, he continued.

The minister questioned why Grande had never paid a visit to Hodeidah city, Taiz or other regions where the Houthis committed war crimes against the civilians on a daily basis.

This was not the first time that Grande makes judgements based on information provided by the Houthis, he noted. Just days ago, she made biased statements to the militias in wake of shelling against civilians in Hodeidah city.

She described the attack as a crime against humanity committed by the Saudi-led Arab coalition.

The human rights office in Yemen soon corrected her error and backed its claims by documented evidence and field information. It confirmed that the shelling came from Houthi-controlled regions, Iryani said.

The Houthis deliberately target civilians in an attempt to garner local and international sympathy, he charged.

Grande’s statements, he continued, only encourage the Houthis to commit more crimes against the civilians in order to achieve their diabolical goals.
