Yemen’s Defense Minister Mohammad Ali Maqdashi survived on Wednesday a landmine explosion in the Marib region. Eight of his guards were killed.
Maqdashi was visiting a frontline area of Sirwah. It is located west of the government-held city of Marib, and east of the capital Sanaa, controlled by the Iran-backed Houthi militias.
"A vehicle accompanying that of the defense minister was struck by an explosion," a defense ministry source told AFP.
"Nothing happened to the minister," the source said.
A military source told the German Press Agency that the Houthis planted landmines in Sirwah before withdrawing from them, and one of them exploded during the passing of the minister’s convoy.
