Yellow weather warning - Flood risk as Edinburgh and Lothians to be drenched with heavy rain

A yellow weather warning has been issued as heavy downpours of rain this week could bring flooding to Edinburgh and the Lothians.

The rain is forecast to begin on Wednesday and continue into Thursday.

It's already hitting parts of England and Wales on Tuesday and is expected to spread to southeastern Scotland later in the week.

The Met Office has now extended its yellow weather warning to cover the region.

Forecasters say: "Spells of heavy and persistent rain have the potential to bring flooding and disruption to transport in places."

Areas covered include Fife, East Lothian, Edinburgh, Midlothian, the Scottish Borders and West Lothian.

Homes and businesses could be flooded, while public transport and roads could be affected by the rain.
