A yellow weather alert warning of thunderstorms in Greater Manchester has been issued by the Met Office.
Forecasters have said the stormy weather is likely to arrive this afternoon, with the warning in place from 1pm to 9pm on Monday.
The warning area covers the entire Greater Manchester region.
According to the Met Office website flooding of a few homes and businesses is "likely", and there could be some damage to buildings or structures due to lightning strikes.
Driving conditions could also be affected by spray and standing water, while delays to train services could occur.
Forecasters have said short term loss of power and other services could also take place.
There may be hail in some parts of the region.
The downpours and thunderstorms are expected to break out in the afternoon, then slowly fade by evening time.
Some areas may see 15 to 25mm of rainfall, while other areas could see 30 to 40mm rain over a two to three hour period.

A statement on the Met Office website said: "Heavy showers and thunderstorms will break out this afternoon before slowly fading this evening.
"Whilst not all places will be affected by these shower and thunderstorms, where they do occur torrential downpours are possible. 15 to 25 mm rain may fall in an hour in some places whilst a few spots could see 30 to 40 mm rain in two or three hours.
"Frequent lightning is possible and a few places may see some hail."
