The Met Office has issued the alert which will come into force at 6pm on Saturday until 11.59pm on Sunday evening.

The warning covers a large part of Skye as well as Ullapool and Fort William.

The forecaster said that a “prolonged period of heavy rain this weekend is expected to lead to some flooding and travel disruption”.

In terms of what to expect the Met Office said:

  • There is a chance of power cuts and loss of other services to some homes and businesses
  • Spray and flooding is likely to lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures
  • Flooding of a few homes and businesses is likely
  • A small chance some communities will become cut off by flooded roads
  • Where flooding occurs, there is a chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services
