Yellow Met Office weather warning for Wales as nearly three inches of rain forecast

A yellow weather warning has been issued for Wales as heavy rain is expected to move across the country, beginning on Wednesday.

In the hardest hit areas of west Wales, nearly three inches of rain could fall, causing flooded roadways and property damage.

According to the Met Office, there is a small chance of fast flowing or deep floodwater and some communities could become cut off by flooding.

Road closures might lead to travel disruption, it said. Train and bus services might be affected by delays and cancellations.

The warning is set to come into effect at 4pm today (June 10) and last until 9am on Thursday.

Heavy rain which develops over Wales during Wednesday afternoon will gradually move southward during Wednesday night, according to forecasters.

They say 20 to 30mm of rain is expected quite widely, with a few places at risk of 50mm and 70mm, or almost three inches.

The bulk of this is expected within a six-hour window, making the risk for flooding more likely.

Carmarthenshire, Ceredigion, Pembrokeshire and Swansea all fall within the risk area.

The rain is expected to break up and clear during Thursday morning. However, essential workers who must travel during the early morning hours are being warned of the risk of spray and flooding on roads.

This was likely to make journey times longer and might lead to some closures, the Met Office said.
