Yellow jersey Kim Le Court-Pienaar overcooks high-speed, technical corner and crashes on descent during stage 8 at the Tour de France Femmes

CHAMBERY, FRANCE - AUGUST 01: Kimberley Le Court Pienaar of Mauritius and Team AG Insurance - Soudal - Yellow Leader Jersey competes during the 4th Tour de France Femmes 2025, Stage 7 a 159.7km stage from Bourg-en-Bresse to Chambery / #UCIWWT / on August 01, 2025 in Bourg-en-Bresse, France.

Kim Le Court-Piennar hit the deck on stage 8 at the Tour de France Femmes after she overcooked a high-speed and technical corner on the descent of the Col du Frêne.

The AG Insurance-Soudal rider, who was wearing yellow jersey at the time, was leading the peloton on the descent with 66km to go, but TV footage showed her accidentally going off the road through a sharp left-hand bend at high speeds.

'Yellow Jersey, Kim Le Court, crashes on the descent by locking up into the hairpin. However, she is back on the bike and under a minute behind the group she was in,' the official Tour de France Femmes account posted to X during the stage.

Having taken a few seconds to catch her breath after the incident, she did not appear to be injured when she remounted her bike with the help of neutral support.

As she tried to reconnect with the main field, which was about four minutes behind a breakaway, she was visibly shaken by the accident and so descended with caution.

Le Court-Pienaar rejoined the back end of the main peloton 18km later, with 48km to go, as the peloton raced towards the centre-piece of this Tour de France Femmes - the Col de la Madeleine.

However, the main peloton had split in two, with a handful of seconds between the groups, but they reconnected inside 30km to go, still more than three minutes behind the breakaway.

At the start of the day, she was leading the overall classification by a narrow margin of 26 seconds over Pauline Ferrand-Prévot, who would go on to win the stage and take the yellow jersey, whilst the Mauritian rider lost more than nine minutes on the slopes of the Madeleine and now sits eleventh overall.

However, she was able to help teammate Sarah Gigante in her GC bid, as she set up an attack from the Australian rider that saw her finish runner-up on the stage and move up to second overall in the general classification.

AG Insurance-Soudal have not yet released any medical update on Le Court-Pienaar's condition.
