'Yeah, OK love!' Shaun Edwards told off for not wearing mask as he swears during live TV interview

Shaun Edwards is known as a straight talker on the training pitch, and it's a trait he tends to take wherever he goes.

That also applies to interviews, with the France defence coach providing a colourful cameo on BT Sport's Rugby Tonight show on Sunday evening following the dramatic extra time Autumn Nations Cup final defeat to England.

Edwards was speaking live from an airport as France left London when he was told by an airport worker he needed to put a face mask on.

The former Wales defence chief was telling presenter Craig Doyle and studio pundits Lawrence Dallaglio and Ugo Monye how France were unhappy the officials missed a late knock-on from Billy Vunipola in the build-up to England's try that took the game into extra time, when he was interrupted with the words: "Sir, you need a face covering."

Edwards replied to the lady: "Yeah, OK love, one second."

As those in the studio chuckled, Edwards added: "I'm getting b*******d by the lady in charge here," with presenter Doyle responding: "I'm about to get similar from our bosses, thanks for that," after the unfortunate choice of language.

Edwards then said: "She's a lot bigger than me too, to be honest," as he put on a face mask.

He then pulled it down again, to add: "She should have been playing for us today, we definitely would have won."

Some viewers on social media have criticised Edwards for the derogatory comments about the woman.

Doyle apologised to viewers for the bad language, asking Edwards to clarify exactly what France were unhappy about at the end.

Edwards said: "It was a knock-on at the end but the referees can't see everything, neither can the touch judges. We were just disappointed with the TMO. He could have interfered in that decision."

Edwards was once again asked to put his mask on as the interview came to an end.
