Year one pupils sent home from school after children caught smoking e-cigarette

Year one pupils were sent home from a school after children were caught smoking an e-cigarette.

Staff at Brockworth Primary Academy in Gloucestershire found the children, who are aged five or six-years-old, with the vape.

Medical checks were carried out on a small number of pupils, Gloucestershire Live reported.

Parents have been informed of the incident, which happened on Wednesday morning.

According to a parent at the school, the e-cigarette was brought in by an older pupil.

An investigation is now underway to find out how the item was brought into school.

A spokesperson for Brockworth Primary said: “We have written to all parents to make them aware that yesterday an e-cigarette was brought into school from home without parents’ knowledge.

"As a precaution, medical checks were arranged for the small number of children involved, and all children are safe and well.

"We are carrying out a further investigation into how this happened and will be running a series of sessions with the children over the coming weeks around keeping themselves safe and making the right choices when they are with their friends.”
