Year 7 pupil at Seaham High School tests positive for coronavirus

A Year 7 pupil in a school in County Durham has tested positive for coronavirus.

Seaham High School in Seaham, County Durham, today (September 21), confirmed that a pupil had tested positive for the virus and said they were working with Public Healh England.

The school said they were in the process of identifying those who need to self-isolate but reassured parents that due to their 'bubble system', the number of those affected are "relatively low".

It's expected the school will provide more information through the day.

In a statement, the school said: "We have received notification that one of our students in Year 7 has tested positive for Covid-19.

"We are in the process of working with Public Health England to identify those members of our school community who will need to self-isolate.

"We will provide further information throughout the day. The parents of any students affected are being contacted directly.

"Due to our Bubble system, the numbers affected are relatively low."

A number of schools across the region have been affected by coronavirus after they reopened earlier this month.

Some asked year groups or bubbles to isolate at home, while others decided to close for a deep clean.
