Year 4 pupils at St Vincent's Primary School in Walker asked to isolate after positive Covid case

Year 4 children at a Newcastle school have been asked to self-isolate after a case of coronavirus was confirmed in their bubble.

Parents were informed of the positive Covid-19 case at St Vincent's RC Primary School, on Monkchester Road, in Walker, on Sunday.

In a letter, headteacher Angela Ness wrote: "There has been a confirmed case of Covid-19 within St Vincent’s Year 4 bubble.

"Consequently, Public Health has informed that all members of the Y4 bubble must now self-isolate for 14 days.

"In line with national guidance, your Y4 child must stay at home until Tuesday 29th September (14 days from contact with the affected pupil).

"Your child must not come to school or go to any public areas. Home learning books for your Y4 child will be delivered to your home on Monday 21st September."

The letter further states that if any of the children are eligible for free school meals, a packed-lunch could be delivered to their homes if requested by 10am each morning.

It adds: "Other members of your household can continue normal activities provided your Year 4 child does not develop symptoms.

"If your Year 4 child is well at the end of the period of self-isolation, then they can return to usual activities and return to school on Tuesday 29th September."

A number of schools across the North East have been affected by coronavirus. Some have asked year groups or bubbles to isolate at home, while others decided to close for a deep clean.

On Saturday, it was confirmed that a pupil at Churchill Community College, in Wallsend, had been diagnosed with Covid-19.

The school said only a small number of people had been identified as close contacts of the student and they had been asked to self isolate.
