Year 3 and 4 pupils sent home from North Shields primary school after positive Covid-19 case

A North Shields primary school has been left "devastated" at having to send home two whole year groups following a confirmed Covid-19 case.

Children in years 3 and 4 at Collingwood Primary School have been told to isolate for 14 days until October 3 at the earliest.

It is anticipated that the school will reopen once again to pupils for the associated year groups on Monday, October 5.

In a letter to parents and carers, headteacher Harriet Bland said: "We are devastated that we have had to close year 3 and 4 but will ensure that work is posted onto Google classroom accounts.

"We will open again at the normal time on Monday 5th October and will be in touch again in the meantime."

Collingwood Primary School adds to the growing list of North East schools to have recorded coronavirus cases since reopening earlier this month.

Some have asked full year groups or bubbles to work from home in case symptoms develop, while others have been able to identify individual close contacts who are asked to self-isolate.
