Year 10 pupils at a Neath school are asked to stay at home following Covid case

Year 10 pupils have been told to stay away from a Neath school from Tuesday, September 29 following a confirmed Covid-19 case.

Parents were told by text and by email of the positive case at Llangatwg Community School in Cadoxton.

The school has taken the step of telling pupils in the year group to stay at home in line with the advice from health experts.

Llangatwg Community School, in a tweet on Monday night, said: “Following guidance from Public Health Wales, due to a confirmed Covid case, year 10 pupils are asked to not come to school tomorrow (Tuesday) but self-isolate and return on the 7th October.

“Text messages and emails have been sent to parents.

“Any concerns, please contact the school office.”

In a further tweet this morning, they added: “For clarity, the date posted regarding the end of the self-isolation period has been calculated by PHW based on when the pupil who is unwell, was last in school.

“Hope this clarifies matter.

“Thank you for your continued support #inthistogether @NPTCouncil”

They moved to reassure parents that everything was being done and said: “Rest assured, all protocols are being followed to the letter.”

Samantha Thomas, on Twitter, asked: “What about a child that in year 11 but has been with a year 10.”

But Llangatwg School, in response, said: “Guidance off Public Health Wales states that at this time there is no need to isolate.”
