An entire year group has been sent home from a Gateshead school due to coronavirus.
All year 10 students have been told to self-isolation after one 'member of the school community' tested positive for the virus at Heworth Grange school.
A letter, issued on Friday, said the pupils, aged 14 and 15, were told to stay at home until October 29.
Pupils who feel well at the end of the 14 days will be able to return to school, and anyone who feels unwell during the isolation period is asked to take a Covid-19 test.
However, all students were told to observe the full isolation period, even if they had a negative test result during that time.
In a further letter to parents, head teacher Allie Denholm said: "A member of our school community has tested positive for Covid-19. We have been working closely with the Public Health Team to carry out a full risk assessment and we have decided that year 10 students need to isolate for 14 days.
"Students in years 7,8,9,11 and 13 are not part of this bubble therefore do not need to make any change to their usual routine, including school attendance.
"We are already taking appropriate action to clean affected areas across the school. All appropriate measures are in place in line with the guidance provided to ensure the health and safety of our communities.
"As a result, the Public Health Team have confirmed that it continues to be safe for the school to remain open, and that all students who are not in year 10 should continue to attend school, including siblings of year 10 students."
It's the first time a full year has been sent home at the school since reopening in September.
On October 5, "close contacts" of one confirmed case were contacted specifically and told to self-isolate.
