‘Yeah, I don’t think that’s gonna work for me’: NYC woman plans date with Hinge match. Then he cancels on her when she says she doesn’t drink

A woman says her date canceled less than an hour before they were supposed to meet, just because she planned to order a mocktail.

In a video with over 34,000 views, TikToker Steph Taylor (@stephfromjersey) sits in her room, dressed for a date. She explains that she was supposed to meet a guy from Hinge “right now.”

However, he canceled abruptly after she told him she couldn’t drink due to a medical condition. In a later video, she explains that she has Meniere’s disease, which causes severe vertigo if she drinks alcohol or caffeine.

Around 38% of adults in the United States permanently abstain from drinking alcohol, according to the Pew Research Center.

Did he cancel the date because she doesn’t drink?

Taylor says she was texting her date before they met up. He asks her if she’s “more of a cocktail girl or a beer girl.”

“I was like, let me be honest. I’m going to see him in less than an hour. He’s going to find out anyway,” she says. “I said, ‘I’m more of a mocktail girl.’”

Her date asks if she doesn’t drink, and she explains that she can’t but is happy for her date to enjoy alcoholic beverages.

“This man goes, ‘Yeah, I don’t think that’s going to work for me. We should just cancel now,’” she says.

In a screenshot shared at the end of the clip, Taylor responds in a message, “WTF are you serious?”

Dating is going great. Love it here,” she says sarcastically.

Did she dodge a red flag?’

In the comments of Taylor’s video, viewers assure her that she may have dodged a sketchy situation by telling him she doesn’t drink.

“Translation: ‘You mean I can’t get you drunk? I’m out. You dodged a major red flag!” one writes.

“Ummm definitely dodged a bullet with that one, What was he planning to slip you and then blaming it on the alcohol..,” another suggests.

“I’m sober and have never had someone do this, he definitely had evil motives,” a third adds.

However, others think her Hinge date did “nothing wrong.”

“I think he handled it poorly, but if he’s a big drinker who likes going to bars and such I can understand him not wanting to waste either of your time due to a perceived compatibility issue,” a commenter offers.

“I hate agreeing with a man, but I get it. Even if you’re fine with others drinking, it can be a weird vibe anyway and it’s totally fair to want someone who is compatible with your lifestyle in that way,” another writes.

“Nobody did anything wrong, but personally, not drinking is something I disclose before the first date,” a third says.
