Yaya Toure has retired from professional football and intends to become a coach, according to his agent.

Dimitry Seluk announced Toure's retirement via Twitter on Friday morning with a post which read: "Yaya Toure @YayaToure ended his playing career. Next up is a career in coaching."

The Ivory Coast international enjoyed a glittering career, with the bulk of his success coming with Barcelona and Manchester City.

The midfielder won two LaLiga titles and the Champions League at Camp Nou between 2007 and 2010, then spent the next eight years at Man City.

Toure won three Premier League titles and two FA Cups in Manchester, with long-range goals and powerful surges from midfield becoming his speciality.

Toure's time at City also coincided with a remarkable period of individual success as well, winning the African Football of the Year award four times in a row between 2011-14. He was also named in the PFA Team of the Year in 2012 and 2014, and won Man City's Player of the Year award in 2014.

Man City paid tribute to Toure on Twitter with a list of his achievements at the Etihad and the message: "Best of luck to @YayaToure on retirement from football!"
