Yate rave: Man jailed after throwing bottles at police in warehouse party

A St George man was jailed after throwing bottles at police during a huge illegal rave in Yate.

Around 500 to 700 people gathered for a party lasting almost 24 hours last Halloween (October 31), at a disused warehouse in Beeches Industrial Estate.

One of those was Nicholas Swanson, who was sentenced to six weeks in prison on April 6. He pleaded guilty to a public order offence and refusing to leave the rave when directed by police.

The 24-year-old, of Salisbury Street, admitted he was threatening, abusive or insulting when ordered to leave, during a "sustained incident" on Lawrence Drive.

Court documents show he was given a jail term because he breached Covid restrictions, kicked at a police shield and threw bottles at police.

District Judge Lynne Matthews handed him a six-week prison sentence when he appeared at Bristol Magistrates' Court on April 6.

During a previous case connected to the rave, prosecutor May Li said the event had started at around 10pm on Halloween, with police arriving at 2pm on November 1.

She told the magistrates' court there were 30 to 50 revellers remaining at this point, some refusing to leave when told to do so.

Bristol Live previously reported on the cases of George Parsons, George Packham, Ashley Waker, Oliver Eavis and Josh Samson, who all admitted offences connected to the rave.
