Yasiel Puig wanted to take on the entire Pirates team in a bench-clearing scrum

It wasn’t a full-out basebrawl, but tempers did flare during Sunday’s game between the Pirates and Reds.

With Chris Archer on the mound, the Reds’ Derek Dietrich took exception to a pitch thrown behind him in the fourth inning. Dietrich had homered on his previous at-bat, and he remained in the box to admire the massive shot into the river (as he should have).

Archer’s attempt at sending a message to Dietrich was instead met with a very angry Yasiel Puig. Reds manager David Bell left the dugout when Archer was given a warning rather than a straight ejection. That discussion turned into a bench-clearing incident.

But keep an eye on Puig.

Here’s a better look at the incident:

Puig was ready to take on the entire Pirates team on his own. Puig needed to be held back, but he did get a punch attempt in and was ejected.

When the dust settled, Bell, Puig, Amir Garrett, the Pirates’ Keone Kela and Felipe Vazquez were all ejected.
