Yashasvi Jaiswal chases Sachin Tendulkar's record as India gear up for Adelaide Test against Australia

NEW DELHI: As Team India prepares for the pink-ball Test match against Australia in Adelaide, opener Yashasvi Jaiswal will have a record to aim for, one that might see him surpass the great Sachin Tendulkar.

Jaiswal, who is only 22 years old, is smashing records. The young player dominated the home conditions for the majority of the year before slaying the Aussie conditions in the first Test match in Perth with a brilliant 161.

Jaiswal has amassed 1,280 runs so far this year, including three hundreds and seven fifties, at an average of 58.18 and a strike rate of 72.52, with an unbeaten 214 his highest score.

The young player needs just 282 more runs to surpass Sachin's record for the most Test runs an Indian has made in a calendar year.

With seven hundreds and five fifties, Sachin amassed 1,562 runs at an average of 78.10 in 14 Test matches and 23 innings in 2010. 214 was his highest score.

With 1,788 runs in 11 games and 19 innings at an average of 99.33 in 2006, Pakistani batting great Mohammed Yousuf holds the record for most Test runs in a calendar year.

With the highest score of 202, he amassed an incredible nine hundreds and three fifties.
