Yannick Bolasie claims 'something is not right' at Everton after squad omission

Yannick Bolasie believes "something is not right" at Everton after he was left out of the 25-man squad for the current Premier League season.

Bolasie returned to training under Carlo Ancelotti in the summer after the coronavirus pandemic restricted the amount of people who could utilise the facilities at Finch Farm following Project Restart.

He initially worked with the first-team and appeared in pre-season before being left out of the Premier League squad - alongside Muhamed Besic - as the pair were relegated to under-23 training with David Unsworth.

Bolasie has not featured for the u-23s and is hoping to secure a move away from Everton in January with former manager Neil Warnock admitting he would be interested in taking the 31-year-old to the Championship with Middlesbrough.

Take our 30-second Everton transfer survey and let us know what Carlo Ancelotti needs to do in the January window.

Bolasie told The Beautiful Game Podcast: "The perception is [Ancelotti] doesn't think [I'm] good enough. If he doesn't, no problem. That's his opinion, I respect that, he's a top gaffer.

"I'm not complaining, I'm still doing my thing, still doing my work, still supporting the team. But just know that, something there is not right and I don't know what it is.

"At the end of the day, it takes two to tango. It's not just me. I've worked hard to get in the position I'm in."

Bolasie also claims other first-team stars were impressed by his work in training during the summer.

The winger - who has had loan spells with Aston Villa, Anderlecht and Sporting Lisbon while at Everton - is out of contract at the end of the season but says he continues to 'give his all' despite being out of favour.

Bolasie added: "In training, for me, I've been doing my thing.

"And when you've got other man saying, 'You're looking sharp,' or another man saying, 'You're looking ready,' I don't know what else I can do to convince people I am good enough to at least be in the 25 [man squad].

"It's a bit of frustration, but it stems from [a long-term injury suffered] two or three years ago. It's not now. I'm in the best shape that I was.

"Every time I've come back for pre-season I've been [sent] into the u-23s.

"Just tell the truth, isn't it? I'm easy. Say the truth, it's fine. Don't say it's the ability and that, because strip off the training cameras and start showing what I'm doing.

"It's not a problem. I'm backing myself and I know. I know it's not down to ability. For me, I'm not losing any sleep. My peace of my mind is I know what I've been doing, giving it my all.

"Every box that [I] can tick right now I've ticked off. On the field, off-the-field, whatever, I've done it. It's just not happening unfortunately, but that's football.

"I support the boys and I get on with them. It's not them that's done me dirty. They're the one giving me confidence. They're the one telling me, 'You're looking sharp, you're looking good.'

"They don't need to tell me that. Football is a competitive game. This was the first time I was training with the first-team in three years, so for them to be telling me I'm looking sharp, for me, okay, cool.

"I don't need that because I know the work I put in in the background but it's good to hear still."
