Yann Songo'o is Hearts trialist against St Mirren as Robbie Neilson runs the rule over French midfielder

Yann Songo’o came on as  a second half trialist for Hearts in their 2-1 friendly win over St Mirren.

Robbie Neilson has taken the opportunity to have a look at the French midfielder after he left Scunthorpe United on the expiry of his contract.

The 28-year-old played 45 minutes as a replacement Olly Lee.

Neilson is on the lookout for a defensively minded midfielder who will provide some steel in the middle of the park.

Songo’o will continue to train with Hearts at Oriam in a bid to win a deal with at Tynecastle.

The player has experience of Scottish football after a loan spell with Ross County back in 2014, and actually scored against Hearts in a 2-1 Scottish Premiership defeat for the Staggies in January of that year.

Songo’o has also played for Plymouth Argyle, Blackburn Rovers and Sporting Kansas City after beginning his pro career with Zaragoza in Spain.
