Yankees' Sonny Gray likely to be dealt this offseason, GM Brian Cashman says

NEW YORK _Brian Cashman all but said that he will try to trade Sonny Gray this winter.

The Yankees general manager, speaking at the end of the year press conference, said the struggling starter would probably benefit from a relocation.

"It hasn't worked out this far," Cashman said. "I think he's extremely talented. I think we'll enter the winter open-minded to a relocation. To maximize his abilities I think it will be more likely best somewhere else.

"But the final decision will be price," Cashman added. "While he's here we're going to do everything in our power to find a way to tap into his talent. We've been unable to do that."

Cashman said he has "nothing cooking" but will get something cooking.

In 34 starts as a Yankee, Gray has been less than impressive, going 15-16 with a 4.51 ERA and 1.17 WHIP.

The former A's starter they acquired prior to the trade deadline in 2017 has been so inconsistent of late he was left off the Yankees' ALDS roster.
