Yankees shut down Luis Severino due to loose body in pitching elbow

TAMPA, Fla. _ Here we go again.

Two days after Aaron Boone said the team was "slow-playing" Luis Severino, the manager announced that the team was shutting down the pitcher after he felt discomfort when throwing his changeup.

Severino, who spent all but the final weeks of the 2019 season on the injured list, had been the only probable starter yet to throw live batting practice.

Boone said Severino has a loose body in his pitching elbow and will visit team doctor Dr. Chris Ahmad on Friday.

Boone indicated the injury dates back to Severino's start vs. Houston in the playoffs.
