BOSTON _ Having already clinched the AL's top wild-card spot, the Yankees went about collecting a few personal and team tokens from the 2018 season.
The aptly named Bronx Bombers are baseball's new single-season home run kings, established during Saturday afternoon's 8-5 victory against the Red Sox at Fenway Park.
Miguel Andujar vaulted past Joe DiMaggio, setting a franchise rookie record with 46 doubles and Giancarlo Stanton reached the 100 RBI plateau _ all accomplished in the Yankees' 100th win of the year.
And all of the day's souvenir baseballs were secured, including one the hard way.
A fan in Fenway's Monster Seats threw back Stanton's 38th homer of the year, with a long peg that hit the Yankees' slugger on a bounce as he rounded second base.
Surprised at first, Stanton smiled and gave a salute toward the stands as he continued his trot.
In the fourth inning, Gleyber Torres clocked a record-setting, two-run shot into the Red Sox bullpen off lefty Eduardo Rodriguez.
That moved the 2018 Yankees past the 1997 Seattle Mariners, who clubbed 264 homers.
And with that homer by Torres, the No. 9 hitter, the Yankees established another new record by producing at least 20 home runs this year by each slot in the batting order.
The Yankees tied the MLB record for homers on Friday night, with four home runs in an 11-6 win against the Red Sox.
"I think sometimes home runs get a bad rap from an approach standpoint," Yankees manager Aaron Boone said before the game, speaking of the claim his club is over-reliant on the long ball.
"You've got to do a lot of things right to hit the ball out of the ballpark and our guys have shown that," Boone said. "I enjoy seeing the ball fly over the fence."
DiMaggio's old rookie mark of 44 doubles, set in 1936, was smashed with Andujar's first of two doubles on Saturday afternoon.
Returning to the closer's role for the first time in a month, battling left knee inflammation, Aroldis Chapman got the final two outs for the save.
