Yankees run win streak to 4 with 2-1 win vs. Orioles

NEW YORK _ It wasn't easy or pretty, but the Yankees made it four in a row. DJ LeMahieu scored on Luke Voit's sacrifice fly in the bottom of the 10th inning for a 2-1 win over the Orioles at Yankee Stadium Saturday.

After losing five straight and dropping three out of four to the Orioles last weekend, the Yankees (25-21) have taken the first three of this series against Baltimore and have won four straight games for the first time since Aug. 11-17 when they won six straight against the Braves and Red Sox.

LeMahieu began the bottom of the 10th on second base. He advanced to third when Hunter Harvery threw a 98-mile an hour fastball wild on his first pitch to Voit to start the inning. LeMahieu scored on Voit's sacrifice fly to center field.

LeMahieu scored both Yankees runs Saturday. It was their first win this season in a game where they did not hit a home run, having lost the last nine such games.

The Yankees played a sloppy game with three uncharacteristic errors. LeMahieu was charged with a throwing error in the seventh. Jordan Montgomery with a fielding error in the fifth and Brett Gardner with a fielding error in the sixth, which allowed the tying run to advance to scoring position.

Montgomery allowed just one unearned run in 5 2/3 innings work on three hits. He walked one and struck out a career high nine batters.

It was a dramatic turnaround for Montgomery, who came in having allowed six earned runs on his last two starts that totaled 4 four innings pitched.

Montgomery was much more efficient this time around. He worked around a one-out single and walk in the first inning. The big lefty retired the next 11 straight. He bobbled D.J. Stewart's bunt attempt to lead off the fifth, but got out of that inning unscathed.

Hanser Alberto led off the sixth with a single and reached second when Brett Gardner bobbled the ball. He scored the tying run on Ryan Mountcastle's one-out single. Montgomery got Pedro Severino out before Aaron Boone came to get him for Chad Green. Montgomery was at just 72 pitches.

LeMahieu had given Montgomery a one-run lead early on, leading off the first with a double. He advanced and scored on sacrifice flies from Luke Voit and Clint Frazier.
