Tropicana Field is a terrible stadium. It’s an aging, ugly structure in an awful location that few fans actually make the effort to visit.
But with the New York Yankees in town for Sunday’s series finale, there were people at the game. A lot of people — by Rays standards, at least. So, what happened during this game?
The stadium lost power because of course it did. A section of lights (and then the videoboard) went out ahead of the ninth inning, causing a delay in the action. There’s nothing like a game delay at an indoor stadium.
You have to appreciate the effort of the fans in attendance, though. They all broke out their phones, turned on the camera light and hoped to produce enough light to resume the game. It looked like a concert at the Trop.
Power was eventually restored, and the Yankees responded by scoring four runs in the inning.
