Yankees prepared to adapt as pandemic-related challenges arise

BALTIMORE _ It's a fluid situation, meaning the Yankees' 2020 schedule. After making the quick switch to play the Orioles in Baltimore after the Phillies were shut down because of exposure to the coronavirus, the Yankees will be shifting their schedule next week as well.

The Yankees will face the Phillies for four games next week, Monday and Tuesday in the Bronx and Wednesday and Thursday in Philadelphia. The Yankees will then switch their trip to Tampa to a three-day, four-game trip, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said.

"We have to stay in the athletic position ... we prepare very hard for the opponent we're gonna play. Obviously we're getting ready for the Phillies and had to pivot," Boone said. "But I feel like our players understand that, it's going to be a little bit different, and they've been great at making adjustments and understanding just how different the nature of this season is."

The Yankees had their two games in Philadelphia this week postponed after the Marlins experienced a COVID-19 outbreak. Fifteen players tested positive after a weekend series against the Phillies, which led to the Marlins pausing their season until Monday and the Phillies, who have had two sets of negative tests after their exposure, resuming play on Saturday.
