Yankees option Brandon Drury; Miguel Andujar holds onto third base

Miguel Andujar is keeping a hold on the Yankees' regular third base job.

On Monday, the Yankees returned Opening Day third baseman Brandon Drury from his rehab assignment and optioned him to Class AAA Scranton/Wilkes-Barre.

Additionally, the Yankees transferred the minor league rehab assignments of Greg Bird (ankle surgery) and Billy McKinney (shoulder strain) to Class AA Trenton.

Drury, 25, has been on the 10-day disabled list since mid-April, after a bout of migraine headaches and blurred vision _ a condition the right-handed hitter has dealt with since his days with the Arizona Diamondbacks.

Recently, Yankees manager Aaron Boone said Drury's condition has improved through treatment, but that both he and the club felt he was not all the way back yet.

In his 17 minor league rehab games, Drury is slashing .315/.433/.481, with three doubles, two homers and seven RBIs.

Andujar, 23, is slashing .282/.296/.458 in 33 games with the Yankees, with 12 doubles, a triple, three homers and 14 RBIs. He's still not a fully developed big-league defender, but scouts felt even last year that he was major league hitter.

And the right-handed hitting Andujar has helped to lengthen the Yankees' lineup, during a period in which they've raced to an MLB-best 28-12 overall record, matching the Red Sox atop the AL East entering Monday.

Bird is expected to return to the Yankees' lineup later this month.
