Yankees exciting finishes continue as Aaron Judge gets walk-off walk against White Sox

The Yankees have had quite the week and Aaron Judge helped continue that hot streak Sunday.

The Bombers got a win behind Corey Kluber’s complete game no-hitter on Wednesday. They got seven scoreless innings from Domingo German on Thursday. Jordan Montgomery went off for 11 strikeouts and the Yankees completed a rare triple play, winning behind Gleyber Torres’ walk-off RBI on Friday. There was no doubt Gerrit Cole would continue the dominance asserted by the Yankees starters on Saturday.

The Yankees took that momentum into their 5-4 walk-off win against the White Sox in the series finale on Sunday.

“The good thing is, we’ve won some games in different ways,” Aaron Boone said after the game.

Judge, the Yankees designated hitter of the afternoon, walked into a tied game with the bases loaded and one out in the bottom of the ninth. White Sox reliever Aaron Bummer had already gave up back to back singles to Clint Frazier and Tyler Wade and intentionally walked DJ LeMahieu. The White Sox changed pitchers to Liam Hendriks with Judge up. But Judge didn’t have to do much but keep a good eye as he was walked to force in the winning run.

It’s the fourth walk-off win for the Yankees this season, who’ve had a knack for keeping their fans on their toes over late inning fireworks. This win was also the first walk-off walk by a Yankee since Juan Miranda on Sept. 26, 2010 against the Red Sox.

Jameson Taillon carried the rotation’s strength, going five scoreless innings, scattering two hits, walking two and notching four strikeouts. The pitchers who came out of the bullpen after were almost able to close out the game unscathed, but Wandy Peralta, Chad Green and even Aroldis Chapman each fell victim to the longball.

Gleyber Torres continued his RBI streak in the first inning on Sunday against White Sox starter Dallas Keuchel. Torres hit a single to center field, which he hustled on to make a double during the frame. The hit allowed Luke Voit (reached on a fielder’s choice) and Aaron Judge (reached on a single) to score.

DJ LeMahieu was able to score in the fifth on Gio Urshela’s grounder. And Gary Sanchez added to the Yankees run total, scoring on Brett Gardner’s fielder’s choice in the sixth.
