Yankees Eliminated From Postseason Contention, Delighting MLB Fans

The outcome had been clear for weeks, but the Yankees were officially eliminated from postseason contention on Sunday.

A 7–1 loss to the Diamondbacks ensured that there would be no October baseball at Yankee Stadium this year. It's the first time the Yankees won't play in the postseason since 2016.

With seven games remaining in the 2023 season, the 78–77 Yankees' motivation is now to finish with a winning record. New York hasn't posted a losing season in 30 years.

As could be expected, MLB fans had plenty to say about the Yankees missing out on the postseason that's always expected in New York.

Yankees slugger Aaron Judge acknowledged that the team failed to fulfill high annual expectations.

"There’s a lot that went wrong," Judge told reporters, per MLB.com's Bryan Hoch. "What it comes down to is, we just didn’t come out here and do our job. With the type of lineup we have, the pitching rotation, we’ve just got to show up collectively."
