TAMPA, Fla. _ There appears to be a cause to Dellin Betances' sluggish spring training.
The Yankees pitcher was diagnosed with an impingement and inflammation in his right shoulder, GM Brian Cashman announced Tuesday. The ballclub's set-up man will begin the season on the injured list and take anti-inflammatory medications, while not throwing for at least three days.
After Betances was unable to get his velocity up beyond 93 miles per hour this spring, he admitted he was not feeling right. He had issues extending his arm completely. The Yankees sent him for an MRI Tuesday morning, where the diagnosis was revealed.
Betances joins the Yankees ever-growing injury pile, which to date, already includes Luis Severino, CC Sabathia and Aaron Hicks.
