The Yankees and Brett Gardner have agreed to terms on a one-year deal for 2019 after the team declined the club option on his previous contract.
The Yankees didn't release contract details, but MLB.com's Mark Feinsand reported that the new deal is worth $7.5 million and that Gardner received a $2-million buyout as a result of the declined option, which would have been for $12.5 million.
Gardner, 35, hit .236 with 12 home runs, 45 RBIs and a .322 on-base percentage and stole 16 bases in 140 games last season. He has a career .261 average with 96 home runs, 450 RBIs and a .344 OBP in 1,358 games. His 257 career stolen bases rank third on the Yankees' all-time list, behind only Derek Jeter (358) and Rickey Henderson (326).
